Clarks Hill Farm

A warm welcome awaits you at the family owned and run Working Dales Pony Centre from Charlie, Gina and Roger Parker, whose Clarks Hill Farm in rural North Cumbria is a traditional 84-acre Cumberland Farm set amongst the beautiful, unspoilt countryside that surrounds the World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall. The Roman Fort of Birdoswald is just 2 miles away, the lovely historic City of Carlisle and the M6 motorway only 17 miles and the bustling market town of Hexham just 23 miles. Newcastle International Airport is less than an hour's drive away.

Enthusiastic breeders of quality Dales Ponies, one of the rarer British native pony breeds, often breeding the rare blue and bay roan colouring now so rarely seen in the Dales breed. Charlie, who has been a forester since 1971, still uses Dales ponies and cobs for 'snigging', a Cumbrian term for timber extraction using horses or ponies.

Displays of harnessing, ponies at work and an informative Farm Walk are by prior arrangement and open to group bookings (min 12 adults). Tuition Courses are available and can be tailored to individual requirements (over 16’s).

Clarks Hill Farm also has a 3-star self catering cottage The Ostler's, which is a well equipped, two-bedroomed barn conversion, traditionally and very comfortably furnished with fabulous, uninterrupted views across the picturesque and tranquil local countryside.

The area offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including walking, cycling and riding, with the world famous Lake District an easy drive through fabulous scenery. For those who want to bring horses with them, Clarks Hill Farm also offers B&B for horses.
