Dales Ponies and Cobs

Dales ponies have been bred in the north of England for centuries and were traditionally used as pack ponies until the coming of the railways when they were then used as draught animals and proved to be the backbone of many hill farms.

A revival of interest in the use of both horses and ponies to carry out land management tasks such as 'snigging' - a Cumbrian word for timber extraction - results from the very limited damage they cause to land when compared to machinery.

Dales ponies are extremely strong for their size, intelligent and very sure footed. Ponies of all ages can be seen, bred for type, conformation and temperament, together with the very unusual roan colouring rarely seen in the Dales breed.

Charlie breaks in his own ponies and when time allows will take in ponies for breaking to drive and work in chains.
Dales Ponies of various ages are usually for sale as is other stock kept on the farm.
